Angelic voices filled Mumbwa church

March 21 – by Lianti

On today’s menu was drive to Mumbwa, meet Monde and his church members and then continue to Flying Missions Guesthouse, southwest of Lusaka. After the final goodbyes at the Training Centre we set out to reach Mumbwa Church (building sponsored by Trinity CRC) by noon or 1 pm.  However, not an hour later, Daniel’s vehicle ball joints on the right-hand side broke again!  It seems to be an issue with this vehicle – the 3rd time it happened since after last year’s mishap in Kafue National Park.  This time our “mechanic” (Jako) was with us, but new parts had to be bought in Itezhi-Tezhi. Between Jako, Daniel and Cliff, the problem was fixed after about a 4 or 5 hours and we were back on track.  Although there was a strong feeling to just continue driving past Mumbwa straight to Lusaka before it is too dark, I asked if we can please stop by – even if just a half hour to greet Pastor Monde and his church.  No-one could even imagine the type of reception we would receive at Mumbwa!

We were welcomed by the most beautiful singing I have ever heard! Voices from heaven. The local choir consisting of about 5 women (each with a baby on her back) and 6 men, blessed us with their performance with such powerful harmonious voices that many of us were left in tears. We received a wonderful Zambian dinner in the unlit church, after which 30 children of the newly established Christian pre-school operating out of the Mumbwa church building, ended the night with three beautiful songs under the leadership of Monde. These kids patiently waited all day for our arrival….!

I left thinking of Jesus’s words about the poor widow and her offering: “For the others put in what they had to spare of their riches; but she, poor as she is, put in all she had – she gave all she had to live on” – Mark 12:44 GNB.  This is what we experienced in Mumbwa.
